Carillo article classical Outline:
I. Introduction
A. "It's been almost 20 years since Francisco "Franky" Carrillo has seen the ocean."
B. "Carillo was convicted in 1992."
C. "Now he's enjoying all these things and more."
II. "Throughout the years, he didn't give up hope that someday he would get out."
III. Appeals
A. "All of the men said they couldn't positively identify Carillo as the shooter."
B. "He was nowhere near that location."

Issue: Wrongful Conviction
Thesis: After being wrongfully imprisoned for twenty years because of police misconduct of witnesses, Carrillo is freed and wants to work with the Innocence Project to help others who were also wrongfully convicted.
Evidence:
Witnesses couldn’t clearly identify him as the culprit.
A witness who came forth saying he was innocent was dismissed.
Police lead the witnesses to picking out the culprit.
Judge finally overturned conviction after witnesses decanted their testimony.
Opposing Views:
Part of a well known street gang.
Resolving the problem:
Innocence Project
Starting life again and studying psychology.
Concluding Reflections:
Carrillo isn’t bitter or angry about the justice system after being wrongfully imprisoned instead he wants to help others while enjoying the simple things in life.

Article Outline
Introduction
-Francisco "Franky" Carillo, 37-year-old Southern California man spent 19 years in prison for a drive-by killing and was freed days after most of the witnesses at his trial recanted testimony.
Position Statement
-Although Carillo was sentenced with two life terms, he never gave up hope that someday he would get out of prison and be with his 20- year old son, who is now in college.
Appeals
-In prison, Carillo became a certified optician and a Braille transcriber certified by the Library of Congress.
-He worked transcribing documents, his other jobs such as cooking, sewing, ironing and cutting hair.
-He read a lot in prison to keep current on today’s technology even though he was not able to use it.
Refutation
Conclusion
-He lost sight of barbed wire and ball and chain and just lived his life.
-Carillo is not bitter about his case and still believes in American system of justice.
-He wants to start working with the Innocent Project to help others.
-Even though he is trained as an optician, he wants to go to school to be a psychologist.
