    Outline

    1. What issue am I going to investigate?
    The juvenile justice system.

    2. What is my claim?
The judicial system is unjust especially when it comes to punishing juveniles for their crimes.

    3. What grounds can I produce that would authenticate my claim?
The testimonies of the juvenile offenders. Some of the juvenile offenders commit similar crimes but are given different sentencing. Some of the offenders did not actually commit the crime but were tried based on associations with gangs.

    4. What backing can I give my claims?
The testimonies of the juvenile offenders. The psychologists, social workers, and lawyers would have been around the system for a long time and realize that some of these teens are given harsher punishments than what was originally intended when the law was passed. For instance, teens who were mildly associated with gang members are seen as affiliated with the gang even though they didn’t do anything except be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

    5. In light of challenging views, how will I need to qualify my claim, if at all?
Provide testimonies from researchers saying that teens can change. That some of the teens don’t deserve the sentencing they deserved especially when it’s for the same crime.

    6. What concluding reflections can I give to my argument?
After listening to the different stories, I realize that the judicial system can be unjust at times. Teens who were at the wrong place at the wrong time are sentenced to many years in adult prison despite not actually committing the crime. These were not the original intentions of the attorneys who created and supported the strict laws pertaining to juveniles.

    Outline

    1. What issue am I going to investigate?
    The juvenile justice system.

    2. What is my claim?
The US justice system fails by sentencing juveniles to adult court.

    3. What grounds can I produce that would authenticate my claim?
    - Psychologists confirm from a scientific standpoint that the frontal lobes of a juvenile are not fully developed and therefore juveniles should not face the same measurements in court as adults.
    - Statistics: The suicide rate of juveniles is eight times greater that spend their time in prison compared to the juveniles in juvenile halls.
    - Testimonies of prison inmates: in interviews they explain how they “show the youngsters how to make a weapon out of a newspaper and some soap.”

    4. In light of challenging views, how will I need to qualify my claim, if at all?
Testimonies of psychologists and statistics can support my claim. This evidence is verifiable and therefore hard to argue.

    5. What concluding reflections can I give to my argument?
Looking at the interviews of juveniles and their stories it gets clear that these convicted teenagers have more potential than the US justice system sees in them. The idea of rehabilitation seems to drift away. Furthermore, after listening to the information of the psychologists and the statistics it becomes clear that the juvenile justice system needs to see change.
