    “Law”

Law in formal terms is a rule or body of rules of conduct inherent in human nature and essential to or binding upon human society. However to me law is a set rule that ones society has agreed upon to be followed and will lead to a more complete, safe, and a whole society if followed. Law is something to be followed most of the time, when it must be challenged it must be done so in a legal matter following the laws and rules in place to challenge the law. However this is not always the case, in many other nations with different form of government and oppressive systems, laws must be broken or twisted to get any real change that might actually benefit the people. So law is in a sense a relative term and a conundrum. If you society is “perfect” then laws have made it so and perfect society’s are the ones with the most fair and just laws. So which one comes first? Do people make perfect laws in a society in chaos and that society turns into a perfect model or do you already need somewhat of a stable and ideal society on which to put fort those laws that will make it better? That answer will probably vary from person to person, each person has their own view point on law and how restrictive or how much open-minded and free willed it should be.

The world I chose was identity. When I think of this word I picture America has a cluster of people with no identity. Identity implies individualism and as individuals we don’t know who we are. As an African American woman my identity is often based on other people’s preconceived notions of what I should or should not be. Identity is often described to be your name, maybe social security number, ethnic back ground personal information but what does this really tell someone about you, besides maybe criminal history and your financial status.

Maturity: the period of time in your life after your physical growth has stopped and you are fully developed.

I see many woman wearing hijab's. It is part of their religion. They are just like any other person. Most Islamic systems define this type of modest dressing as covering everything except the face and hands in public.

    Defeat:

Defeat has multiple definitions, the common theme being the act of triumph or, if at the receiving end, loss. Defeat is usually associated with a physical type of connotation but is more than often taken in psychologically. However, the dictionary perceives the action as a bit unsubstantial, while the actual notion is incredibly disappointing and confidence shattering.

    Writing Assignment 10: Step 1

    Maturity
Maturity to me is being wise and using a well formed sense of judgment. To some maturity means being conservative, but I don’t believe that you have to wear a suit to be mature. You could be an unemployed, slacker, stoner and still be mature. It would just take using critical judgment to make the most informed decisions.

Law has a lot of definition, it can be the values applied in the courts of common law, it can be a person or an organization acting legitimately to impose the certain rules, it is also a compilation of rules and regulations set by authority, customs or practices that should be followed by everyone if not, certain punishments will follow. Law can be challenged in a legal way with facts and ideas to back up the argument. There are different laws in different communities usually made by the government, a perfect community is made up of fair laws for everyone.

    Terrorism
The word Terrorism bring up many things in my mind. Terrorism makes me think about someone terrorising someone else. It also makes me think about terror, fear, guns and guys with masks. In my mind I also think of 9/11, muslims and the middle east. Its funny to me that today anytime there is a problem in a country they call it terrorism, even when its not. Libyas president also said that what is happening in Libya is terrorism, even though its clearly not. I feel that many goverments use terms like terrorism to scare its people and to make them feel like they really need the goverment. Which gives them more power over their people and like in United States after 9/11 laws were passed, because people were scared. One of the real definitions on Dictionary.com is “the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, especially for political purposes.”

    Step 1:
Art: I think art has been misunderstood and re invented millions of time, and I think this is due to the fact that art can never be fully understood, nor should it. People always want to classify something and put a definition on it to understand everything, but art is something that should still remain something than can never be ruined by humans. Art is something that should be freeing to the artist and the viewer. Art can be anything that pleases the viewer, it is not restricted to a painting or a photo, it can be anything that makes someone feel something.

    Step 2:
Art is anything that pleases the artist and whoever the audience is intended for. It is supposed to arouse some sort of emotion from the viewer and is not limited to a specific type of art. Art does not have one form or style. It can be anything. From ancient ritualistic stones that served as a purpose to a logo intended to represent a product for sale, art can be anything people create.

Free write about the definition of Depression

Depression is a term that describes an emotion that make people feel sad and upset, also stressed. It can causes people to stop doing what they are doing. Also it prevents people from creativity, activity. People kind of lock themselves in a box and block interactions with other people. It also puts people at a spot where they want to explode and not to commit themselves into anything that they want to do. When people are depressed, they want to escape from reality. They also cannot control their words and actions, so they would somehow be rude to other people. For instance, if somebody tries to help a depressed person, they have to be careful because they might get some cruel words from the person they are trying to help. Depressed person definitely needs other people around them so they could get their depression out of themselves. If they are left alone, they could feel lonely and lost.

Due to the increase in terrorism within the country, the self-proclaimed policing country, the United States, set out to war to rid the violence and suffering. However the term terrorism is more of a perspective considering the different point of view alters the primary idea of what terrorism actually is and who actually sees the certain action as a terror plot. Others can see “terrorism” as a form of expression and or as a rebellious feat.

Addiction is part of life. It often has to deal with drugs but that is just a small part of what it is. Everyone is addicted to something whether they like to admit it or not, Addiction can be as simple as going to the same coffee shop every morning or feeling the need to go to the gym. Addiction is what motivates us to drive as individuals, it gives us a reason to get the things in our lives done. Money is the biggest example of an addiction in our society. People will do anything and go to any length if the right amount of money is involved. Addiction is a hunger for something you do not have. After we fulfill an addiction we have we feel satisfied and often don't feel the need to satisfy this urge for a while after. Addiction is your drive to live life and our hunger for tomorrow.

The term education is knowledge acquired by learning and instruction which is very important to sustain a complex society.

Education helps develop and further progresses a nation's growth, and a lack of education will ultimately hinder it. It’s through education we have progressed so far, but now it seems our generation and future generations are in trouble with cut backs in the education system. Our ability to learn and perform complex tasks is what separates us from wild animals and makes us human. Several countries now have better education systems then ours, and we need to reverse it.

Gossip is the act of telling rumors to someone else about other people’s affairs. These rumors are not always true, but they are often told from one person to another. The information contained in gossip are not verified. However, they are still widespread. Gossip can also occasionally be harmful to the person who is the subject of these rumors.

Gossip can commonly be seen in schools and tabloids. People like to talk about other people’s affairs. They speak of other people behind their backs, not always caring how that might affect the person who is the subject of the gossip. In schools, students spread rumors about other students which can sometimes be vicious. They ostracize certain students for being different. In tabloids, there are tons of articles about different stars. Reporters find details about the lives of superstars and publish it for everyone to see. However, these rumors can often be taken out of context and misconstrued as something else.

Even though gossip might be harmful to the lives of people who are the topic of these rumors, it will continue to be something people practice. Many people are fascinated by the lives of others and want to tell other people, usually friends or acquaintances about what they heard or learned. This chain of information passes on from person to another.

    Education

Education is about how successful one may be, and how more open-minded one is of the other. Education keeps one informed and knowledgeable of the world a little better, and keeps one being a critical thinker and question others’ choices, and other topics as well. Education to me is very important because it furthers my choice to my desired career, and lets me well-informed about what I want to become later in the world. Education is very essential, and distinguishes one person from another in terms of what they have learned, what classes they have taken, and what grades they have received for each different class. It gives a somewhat range of people and ranking as well so that people can be fairly differentiated from each other.

    Epilogue Summary

In a letter to White America, Tim Wise urged people to step away from their television and take action. Hurricane Katrina was one of the examples that he used. According to Wise, white people saw New Orleans only as a place filled with poverty, crimes, and political corruptions, that they saw the disaster as a way to rebuild the city without certain people there to destroy it. Wise acknowledges that because of how the media portrayed the city, it is understandable why people saw the destruction of New Orleans that way. However, he had lived in New Orleans and knew firsthand what the media had left out.

The media did not show that whites were taken to safety first or that the National Guard threatened starving people with guns to keep them away from food. Prisoners were left to fend for themselves during the flooding. Police officers helped white not black people move up in lines to evacuate the city. The damages caused by Hurricane Katrina were not natural because it could have been prevented if the levees were built stronger.

Wise also pointed out that issues like these were not new to America. People of color have been removed from their homes before due to the destruction of their homes. White people have not noticed any of this which is why they were shocked at what they saw during Hurricane Katrina. Wise believed that white people had easy access to information about the lives of colored people, but instead, preferred to ignore the details and chose to blame people of color for their problems. He hopes that white people realize that it is not enough to simply help black people. White people have to be able to accept people of color as family and demand that their lives are as equal as whites.

In the Epilogue of White Like Me, Tim Wise berates white America for it's handling and reaction to Hurricane Katrina. He verbally lashes out at emergency responders for not allowing the American Red Cross to provide aid to those still trapped in the city of New Orleans. He bemoans the general apathy felt by many whites to the plight of those directly affected by Katrina. He attempts to shame the political left and right for implementing redevelopment that would essentially cast out lower middle and impoverished citizens from what had once been their homes. The Epilogue is a letter to white people. It tells them that they may think things have changed, and that they had changed, but the really haven't.

The movie is about a bisexual girl who joins the Islamic religion and her experience in her Muslim community. Over all she feels a positive experience and acceptance. However even though she is accepted in a New York Islamic community, her lifestyle might not be so accepted in the more extreme Islamic groups in the middle-east.

    Epilogue Summary:

Tim Wise argues that if you haven't lived in New Orleans for ten years than you have no idea the magnitude of Hurricane Katrina. However extreme this may sound, he may have a point. If he is speaking in terms of race issues perhaps we may have no idea. He speaks of missing footage of the disaster where serious cases of racism occurred. “You see this really was about race” states Wise. He says that most may come to blame the black community for looting and other crimes during this disaster because of the images we've seen. He says the rescue effort was mainly rescuing the whites. All of this disaster because they didn't build a proper levee.

    Summary of Epilogue

In an open letter to White America, Wise wanted people to move forward and make actions. He used plenty of examples like the Hurricane Katrina, he said that during this time, white people see New Orleans as a place that is full of crimes and political actions, that this disaster happened so that the place would be rebuild and people would start new, they saw this event as a sign to make a change. Wise said that white people had access to the lives of colored people but unfortunately, they chose to ignore it and not help the ones who are in need. Actually, Wise also said that helping is not enough, they should help at the same time accept that colored people are part of our community.
He talked a lot about the Hurricane Katrina, how that incident was seen as African American people’s problems, even after now, this is still a big issue. It is sad how he said that white people think that they have changed to accept others, but the truth is that they have not.
